Mandy Du Bois, of our Wudinna branch competed in last weekends ‘Marilyn Jetty Swim’ after her sister-in-law made the suggestion. They were joined by other family and friends who thought it seemed like a fun way to raise money while acknowledging people they know currently undergoing treatment for cancer.
Participants in the swim were professionally made up and then glammed up in a white bathing suit, blonde wig and red lippy before joining the 138 fabulous Marilyns for the 400m swim around the Brighton Jetty.
As Mandy’s teammate said ‘Cancer doesn’t care how big our bums are! We have all been touched by this horrible disease in some way with family or friends and it was a privilege to swim with these amazing women in our crazy outfits!
Mandy and her team ‘Something’s Got to Give’ raised the amazing amount of $2,273, well over their goal of $1,000.
It’s not too late to support the cause. If you would like to add to their fundraising you can donate online.
The SA Cancer Council started the swim in 2014 and since then it has raised over $200,000 for cancer research. To find out more about the swim, or next years event visit the Cancer Council website.
